REM Cycle

A period of sleep lasting approximately 90 minutes consisting of an extended period of non-REM sleep (predominantly stage N2 with some stage N3 in early portions of the night) followed by and ending with REM sleep. The cycle repeats 4 to 5 times during a normal night of sleep.
