A cell that conducts electrochemical impulses. These cells form the working component of the nervous system. They have projections – dendrites – that receive signals from other neurons. They have a single projection – axon – that allows communicates to other neurons through connections with their dendrites by chemical neurotransmitters. The connection between the axon and a dendrite is a synapse.
