Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD)

A Mandibular Advancement Device is set of retainers for the upper and lower teeth used to treat obstructive sleep apnea.  When placed they hold the mandible in a slightly forward position that helps to hold the tongue away from the back of the pharyngeal wall to prevent obstructive apnea.  The abbreviation for the device is MAD.
